Curriculum Philosophy

All of our Curriculums here at Weston Learning Academy are based on the philosophy that children learn best through hands-on activities that address the needs of the whole child. This is why we have enhanced our self developed curriculum with
HighReach®. Each High Reach Learning curriculum reflects the belief that children need a balance of child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities each day. This approach reflects the beliefs of Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson, Lev Vygotsky, David Ausubel, and Jerome Bruner. HighReach Learning also reviews state and national standards for early childhood education and takes into account when planning curriculum. Themes are used to introduce information and learning takes place as a child explores and manipulates real objects and events.

 

Toddlers (12 – 24 months)

  • Music and art activities

  • Creative hands-on activities

  • Outside play in brightly colored, fenced-in outdoor play area

  • Focus on building vocabulary, developing muscle skills and engaging in creative expression

  • 6:1 child / teacher ratio

  • Daily observation sheets detail activities, meals and milestones

Terrific Twos (25 – 36 months)

  • Potty training

  • Sensory stimulation with art projects and block games

  • Math and Reading

  • Outside play with supervised activity and motor skills

  • Daily observation sheets detail activities, meals and milestones

  • Low student/teacher ratios

Pre-School 3-4 (3 to 4 years)

  • Building language, phonics and rhyming

  • Counting, sequencing and problem-solving

  • Enhancing social skills with special group activities

  • Supervised outdoor play time

  • Low student/teacher ratios

Pre-K 4-5 (4 to 5 years)

  • Building school readiness with creative learning tools

  • Three hours of learning including math and reading lessons

  • Enhancing social skills with group activities

  • Supervised outdoor play time

  • Introduction to computers in computer lab

  • Low student/teacher ratios
